When Nammi first came on the market a lot of knitters contacted me to ask about shawl and scarf patterns. Nammi knits up really nice in projects like this where the movement in the colors shows off clearly. The pattern is surprisingly simple since it contains only one type of increase and one type of decrease, all other stitches are simply knit or purled. This makes the pattern ideal even for those with little experience of lace knitting. The pattern is now available for purchase as a pdf, both on Ravelry and on Etsy. Enjoy!

Nammi is one ply and very light and suitable for many different types of garments. For example: It makes lovely shawls and scarves for example on needdles size 6 mm (US 10) and for garter stitch baby garments, like the ever so lovely Baby surprise jacket by Elizabeth Zimmermann (picture), I use size 3,5 mm (US 3). You can buy the legendary pattern designed in 1968 at Schoolhouse press.

… means “candy” in Icelandic. The vibrant and luscious colors remind us of candy.

…is really kind of special. The breed of sheep around here is very old, got isolated at the time of the settlement, around the year 874. So these furry creatures have remained the same ever since. The wool has two different types of fibers, þel (pronounced thel, with the “th”sound as in thorough), which is the warm, soft, isolating stuff closest to the body and tog, the long water repellent fibers on the surface. So the wool has unique qualities being warm, soft, very light and water repellent at the same time.
